Your shoot Awaits
10 things to avoid when preparing for your boudoir shoot
At JP Moulin Photography, we want you to have the best experience with us. Weʻve written about things to do to prepare for a boudoir shoot, now hereʻs 10 things NOT to do preparing for and during the shoot.
1) avoid thinking
Weʻve planned carefully for the shoot. We’ve received the consultation photos, weʻve discussed the lingerie and other outfits. Weʻve discussed the concept…so what more is there to think about? Nothing. Your work is done, now it’s important you are in the moment and have the experience moment to moment. Again, avoid thinking…it weakens the team.
2) Don't tan or wax the day before
Avoid tanning due to the potential of sunburns – they lead to peeling and difference in color. Not cute. Avoid waxing right before the shoot. Skin irritation, burns, or redness? Not cute. Schedule waxing or tanning at least 3-5 days in advance to let your skin calm down.
3) avoid tight clothes and shoes
Strappy shoes and clothes are super cute, but do not wear them when you come to the shoot. Straps leave marks and itʻs not pretty. This includes tight bras, strappy shoes, etc.
4) Don't ignore your hands and feet
Wearing shoes with socks will help keep your feet clean. Slippers can kick up dirt and you may find that your feet become dirty. Who wants dirty feet in their photo? Iʻm sure you don’t. Do a mani/pedi. Dry, cracked feet aren’t pretty.
5) Don't bring your kids
We love keiki, but we ask that any minors be left at home. This should go without saying, but a couple of women have brought their children and given them an iPad to sit quietly in the corner. Hard to get mom to feel sexy if she’s got her kid in the room.
6) Don't starve yourself
Ladies, we get it, you donʻt want to look bloated, but from our experience, having something to eat is crucial. Eat something nourishing before your intimate shoot. A happy belly = a relaxed, glowing you. Save the burger for after the shoot, but have a banana and other things that wonʻt make you bloated.
7) Don't overthink posing
We know you can pose in the mirror, but what happens when you donʻt have the mirror? You got me! Iʻm your mirror. Iʻll tell you what to do with your hands, your hips, your feet, your face, etc. Again, thinking weakens the team. Trust the process!
8) Don't go overboard on alcohol or caffiene
Avoid going our partying the night before – itʻll lead to puffiness and drowsiness. As far as the caffeine, it can make you jittery. Some women think they need to have a couple drinks during the shoot..not true. The vibes of the shoot loosen you up, and youʻll walk away feeling even more empowered.
9) Don't just show up with outfits
Some may say, “Oh Iʻll just show up with stuff and we can see what works.” And then they show up with a suitcase and we spend a significant amount of time trying things on to see how they look. The consultation is crucial.
10) Don't forget to stretch a little!
Some poses can be surprisingly physical — loosen up those hips and shoulders!
