I love all the real blogs and recents posts about mom life. Perhaps you’ve seen a funny #momlife anecdote. Maybe it’s a shirt stained by spit up, one of the occupational hazards that come with mommy turf. Or perhaps it’s a confession that Mom hasnʻt had time to brush her hair, change her clothes or take care of some other necessity that’s suddenly a luxury when a little one (or two or three) enters the house.
Well, I’d like to keep the spirit of Mother’s Day alive past the holiday. After all, why should Mom only get to feel like a queen on one of 365 days?
There’s another mom hashtag I enjoy. It’s #momtomodel.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a look. It features before-and-after transformations of everyday moms into models. It’s a photo session catering to the mommy market that was created by local photographer J.P. Moulin and wife Rose. In a nutshell, it’s a glamorous mommy makeover captured on camera. In J.P.’s words, “Moms are probably the most rewarding demographic. Some moms tell me they feel like they have lost their appeal after having kids, that they don’t feel sexy any-more, that they feel like slaves at home. Some are recent divorcees and are ready to make a new start.”
The idea started on a whim. Moulin was racking his brain for “something clever” to post on Facebook, similar to Throwback Thursday or Flashback Friday. “I wanted something that sounded groovy with Monday,” explains Moulin. “That’s when it hit me – Mom To Model Monday! Since that point, we’ve been featuring moms all week.”
The photos are shot tastefully in a boudoir/pin-up style, with professional hair, makeup and styling suggestions by Moulin’s team. One mom booked a session to surprise her deployed husband. She says that she received the ultimate gift.
Jessica M. struggled with bulimia and a skin disorder and couldn’t believe her eyes. In her words, “I wanted to cry because I was so happy and shocked how beautiful Ilooked. It forever changed me and helped me squash that inner voice that kept telling me I wasn’t sexy or beautiful for so long.”
In this age of selfies, photoshop and filters, it’s easy to glamorize idealistic images of beauty, but there’s nothing more beautiful than someone who feels confident in their own skin. Sometimes it just takes professionals to help bring out the beauty that was always there.
